Abstract. The clinical, hematologic, and histologic features of acute megakaryoblastic leukemia are described for an 8-year-old female Domestic Shorthair cat, a 3-year-old female mixed-breed dog, and a 3-year-old male German Shepherd Dog. The neoplastic cells were characterized as belonging to the megakaryocytic lineage.
2 Bone marrow characteristics include proliferation of abnormal megakaryoblasts identified by the presence of platelet-specific surface glycoprotein and frequently extensive myelofibrosis. Define megakaryocytic leukemia. megakaryocytic leukemia synonyms, megakaryocytic leukemia pronunciation, megakaryocytic leukemia translation, English dictionary definition of megakaryocytic leukemia. n. acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (acute megakaryocytic leukemia) a form of acute myelogenous leukemia in which megakaryocytes are predominant and platelets are increased in the blood, often with fibrosis; it can occur at any age. Called also megakaryoblastic or megakaryocytic leukemia. Adult acute megakaryocytic leukemia: an analysis of 37 patients treated at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

To our knowledge, this is the first report of MPO-positive acute megakaryoblastic leukemia in a dog. Based on bone marrow biopsy and histopathological examination, it was diagnosed as megakaryoblastic leukemia. Canine megakaryoblastic leukemia is very rare, however this is the first case report We present a case report of megakaryocytic leukemia in a 2-year-old male Afghan dog that was anorexic and had progressive weakness in the rear legs. Radiographs of the lateral spinal and pelvic A 4-y-old neutered male German Shepherd Dog was presented with a 3-d duration of lethargy, restlessness, and vomiting. Physical examination revealed generalized lymphadenopathy, pale mucous membranes, systolic heart murmur, dehydration, and fever. Hematologic abnormalities included moderate-to-marke … In our experience, the most common chronic leukemia is CLL. This is also the most common cause of a persistent lymphocytosis in dogs.
Monocytic leukemia is less common and only single cases of basophilic, megakaryocytic and erythroid leukemia in the canine species have been recorded [7]. A case of megakaryocytic leukosis of questionable neoplastic nature in a dog also has been described [lo]. We present a case report of megakaryocytic leukemia in a 2-year-old male Acute Megakaryocytic Leukemia Acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL) is a rare malignancy affecting megakaryocytes, platelet-producing cells that reside in the bone marrow.

Megakaryocytic hyperplasia is also present in disorders with accompanying thrombocytosis, including iron-deficiency anemia (see Fig. 9-1), some chronic inflammatory conditions, and essential thrombocythemia, which is a myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by a persistent, markedly increased (greater than 1 × 10 6 /µL) platelet count. 25,106,115,292 Megakaryocyte morphology appears

In addition an unusual mononuclear cell with ruffled borders is seen (arrow) alongside a giant platelet (dysplastic; arrowhead). The mononuclear cell with ruffled borders is not truly blast but is a dysplastic megakaryocyte, called a micromegakaryocyte. The present case was therefore diagnosed as acute megakaryoblastic leukemia.
The megakaryocytes are present in the bone in rat and dog models of thrombosis/hemostasis.

https://doi Megakaryocytes were the main focus of this study. The megakaryocytic number and clustering was closely observed in the trephine biopsy slides. The megakaryocytic number was raised in 57 (60.6%) of cases observed. Megakaryocytic clustering was seen in all these patients; whereas, dwarf forms were seen in 20% of the cases.

In our experience, AML-NOS, acute monoblastic/mononocytic leukemia (AML-M5) is the most common subtype of AML in the dog (Stokol et al 2015, Stokol et al 2017) and acute erythroid leukemia (AML-M6) is the most common subtype seen in the cat (Blue et al 1988, Jain et al 1991), although the latter is infrequently seen nowadays since the advent of FeLV vaccination.
